Red fescue is used as a turfgrass and Groundcover and can be left completely unmowed for a lush prairie-like look. The leaves are bright green, graceful slender flower stems in summer. Needs more irrigation in hot-summer areas. It is found worldwide and can tolerate many habitats and climates; it generally needs full sun to thrive.
Reasonably well-drained soil Moderate watering; somewhat drought tolerant if shaded.
Sun or light shade near the coast, best in part shade inland.
